Real-time nanoscale imaging comes to market today with the release of the Halo LM10 nanoparticle detection system.

The device, barely larger than two packs of playing cards, is capable of sub 20nm real-time detection of particles.

What this means in practical terms is that many of the routine analytical jobs, such as nanoparticle counting, analysis of particle size distribution etc. currently requiring a scanning electron microscope can now be performed on the Halo LM10. Small variations in particle size, which are immediately visible via the instrument allows nanoparticle manufacturers to perform real time quality control.

A major advantage of the instrument is that it works using flow cell, allowing other small particles such as viruses to be also detected.

In the interests of transparency, it’s worth noting that Cientifica CEO Tim Harper is a non executive director of NanoSight.
