Big in Japan

The Yomiuri Shimbun reports that the Japan Business Federation (Nippon Keidanren) has predicted that the domestic market in nanotechnology would grow to 27 trillion yen ($250 billion) in 2010 and that Sumitomo will generate 10 billion yen ($91 million) in sales in fiscal 2008 from their licence on NECs nanotube patent.

A similar message was heard from Professor Tomoji Kawai during the opening of NanoKorea who mentioned that nanotechnology was already a huge export earner for Japan and reinforced the message that will be familiar to TNT readers, “Nano Adds Value.”

Meanwhile the Asahi Shimbun reposrts strong sales of nano based sun creams including:

Anessa Perfect UV Sunscreen lotion, featuring what the company calls “flower leaf zinc oxide,” nanometer-sized particles coated by flouride.

Nano Wear Whitening UV Solution, which the manufacturer Kose says “inhibits the formation of melanin, which causes liver spots and freckles, and is also an effective skin whitener.”
