Untangling Nanotubes

It’s a common enough complaint from anyone attempting to make use of carbon nanotubes. One batch works, another doesn’t, the supplier claims it’s the same material. Confusion also reigns with a lack of standard definitions, especially at the fatter end of CNTS, with nanofibres, endotubes and multiwall nanotubes all being used interchangeably.

As a result, the European NanoBusiness Association and the Austrian Space Agency have taken the first steps towards standardisation by organising a workshop in Vienna on 28th & 29th October.

By bringing together all parties, from producers to end users, and from academics to metrology providers, the ENA hopes to lay the foundations for roadmapping the path towards common standards in carbon nanotubes. The only way to do this is to bring all stake holders together and identify the issues. It may be a long process. But this is a first step.
