The wondrous nanostructured properties of Geckos feet which allow them to stick to any surface have long been a subject of fascination for nanoscientists, and we know of at least one research lab that has had Nike sniffing around. As with any nanostructured surface, the questions arises of how to keep the business end of the feet clean.
Surprisingly it turns out that geckos keep clean as they run around by shedding silica nanoparticles. Another tricky dilemma, shall we jog or take the bus?
