A major application of nanotechnology has always been in catalysts (catalysts have always been nanotech grumbles many a chemist in response) but despite catalysis being used in many a chemical process, from the production of petrol to fertilisers and plastics, few people come into close contact with them.

That may change if Sunnyvale entrepreneur Sonny Oh has his way, with his $299 “Oil Fresh” device which claims to make cooking oil last two to four times longer before its starts to smell. The company is looking for money to target the likes of McDonalds and other global greasy spoon chains.

It may not be better for you, but the restaurant may smell a little cleaner.
