We have always thought highly of Howard Lovy and his recent efforts with his blog (Nanobot).
That’s why we had the mixed feelings of sympathy at his recent money woes (his house was going into foreclosure) and repulsion at his unfortunate admission of these problems.
Well, Mr. Lovy was spared foreclosure by Larry Millstein at the Foresight Institute. This seems fitting since we have always maintained that Mr. Lovy does a better job of advocating the position of the Foresight Institute (molecular manufacturing come hell or high water) than they do.
Mr. Lovy is quick to point out that it was not only the Foresight Institute, but some unnamed nanoproduct CEO who was instrumental in saving his house. We imagine he wanted to make sure that we didn’t think he would become a shill for FI’s agenda as much as thank his anonymous donor.
Nonetheless, we are still a bit puzzled in light of this recent lifeline thrown to him that Mr. Lovy now claims in his recent acceptance speech that “This little blog is the only publication in existence that’s dedicated to objective coverage of nanotechnology.”
Really?! Is it within the realm of possibility that the Foresight Institute and its financial backers would have been so keen to support a publication that didn’t so strongly advocate its own agenda? Mr. Lovy informs us that he will work off his debt with other work for FI.
But could this be why in a recent blog entry on nanotechnology in Iran there is a link to a story on Transhumanism?!
We believe that Mr. Lovy should go on advocating whatever it is that is on his list, whether it be nanotechnology and Kabbalism or the importance of the Drexlerian vision of molecular nanotechnology, but upon knowing who saved him and his family from homelessness, do we have to hear that this somehow makes him objective?
Our question is if Madonna’s kabbalah rabbi had come up with his $6000 to keep his house out of foreclosure would Nanobot somehow become the last bastion of “objective coverage” on matters pertaining to nanotechnology and religion?
It leaves us here scratching our heads.
