One of the most toted benefits of nanotechnology is stain resistant clothes allowing us to slurp noodles and dribble wine with impunity. From Japan comes a new application on the block, and provides some good news for suit sniffing hay fever sufferers. Miyuki Keori Co. said on Monday it has developed a fabric it claims can prevent pollen from clinging to it with the help of nanotechnology. Apparently up to 96 percent of pollen that falls on the cloth can be brushed off by hand, compared with 60 to 70 percent in conventional textiles.
We were unaware that pollen clinging to men’s suits was a significant factor for hay fever sufferers, and a quick poll of the office revealed that not one of our male staff has ever attempted to remove pollen from their clothing, nor did anyone admit to pollen resistance being a factor when buying a new suit.
Still, it makes for an interesting, if odd marketing angle.
