Taiwan Ups the Ante

Taiwan is throwing down the gauntlet to other Asian economies with the announcement of a rather pragmatic $1 billion program for “industries that apply nanotechnology to daily life.”

The program also looks at the wider economic needs of Taiwan, with a plan to “increase the annual quota for military recruits to do sci-tech work as a substitute for their compulsory military service to 10,000, up from 3,500 now.”

Pragmatic and farsighted, without a mention of a trillion dollar industry; that’s the way to do it… maybe.
