While some have been distracted by matters spiritual, the most significant event of the week, Konarkas acquisition of Siemens’ polymer based photovoltaic activities slipped through barely noticed. In fact it’s a smart move by an increasingly smart company.

Germany, with less than half of the sunlight of Spain has over twice the solar generating capacity, and renewable energy is an ever hotter topic in European political circles (even oil rich Norway has been looking at tidal alternatives recently). The combination of political will and subsidies make Europe a better bet for early adoption of renewables, and Konarkas operation in Germany, Austria and Switzerland mean that they are well poised to take advantage.
