A recent survey concludes that
90% of Americans believe that continued U.S. global leadership in technology is important to the nation’s economy;
More than 76% believe that funding for research into the new fields of nanoscience and nanotechnology should be a priority of both federal and state governments;
60% of Americans believe it is very important for state governments to also get involved in nanoscience research funding;
80% of Americans cannot name a single company that is a leader in nanotechnology development; and
Probably 90% of Americans have no idea what nanotechnology is.
All a little predictable, and as with a UK survey, a total lack of knowledge about nanotech is no barrier to having an opinion. Survey of the year so far has to be the one relating nanotech to sloppy table manners.
