Ajayan and his team at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and the Banaras Hindu University in Varanasi, India. The trick is to coat the inside of a quartz tube with carbon nanotubes, to produce a filter capable of removing large materials, such as viruses, while allowing water to squeeze through the pores.
