Cruise Controls

We are all in favour of holding conferences in interesting locations, after most people will fight harder for a travel budget to get to a conference in Hawaii than a basement in Birmingham. However, some administrators have drawn the line at Caribbean Cruises.

According to the Washington Post, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health have had to shelve plans to hold “The First International Symposium on Nanotoxicology — Nanotox 2006” on a cruise ship in the dead of winter as the “political sensitivity of funding agencies to using a cruise liner makes it impossible for many participants to rightfully cover their expenses.”

Shame, we were hoping for an invitation.
