Something we have been flagging as a problem for years is the dearth of engineers and scientists in Europe and the US. While combining some chemistry and physics and calling a course nanotechnology has helped make science cool again, it is a drop in the ocean. It does not matter whether you invest in a business, or run a business, you still have to understand how that business makes (or attempts) to make money. It is good to see Sir Harry Kroto, co discoverer of Buckyballs, hitting the nanotube on the head in the UKs Daily Telegraph.
Worth filing in the repeat until understood section is the conclusion that “science is far and away the most cost-effective educational investment and we must ensure that adequate numbers of good students enter universities with thriving science departments and research.”
This is something that is well understood in other parts of the world.
