A whole host of UK companies who have been selected for funding under the Department of Trade and Industrys £90m micro and nanotechnology manufacturing initiative. A few caught our eye.
Thomas Swan, a new kid on the block when it comes to carbon nanotubes but no stranger to the chemical business have two projects funded, “Nanoelectronics Production: Technology for Wafer Scale Carbon Nanotubes and Nanowires” and “Nanotube Fibres,” presumably in collaboration with Alan Windles lab at Cambridge.
“Nanotechnology for Sustainable Water Purification” at Scotoil Services Ltd in Aberdeen intrigued us, especially in light of the upcoming Nanowater conference in Amsterdam.
Hiding down at the bottom of the list is Salisburys Nanosight with a project on “Synthetic Biomimetic Binding Sites.” The company says that it is “developing novel patented techniques to bind biological molecules which, when combined with Nanosights existing nanomicroscope technology, are expected to produce novel diagnostic and research tools for applications across the entire spectrum of biosciences and advanced electronic sensors.”
